Load Banks

• Load Bank testing allows a standby power system to be tested and exercised under load to verify its overall reliability to perform in an emergency power situation. The load bank removes the risk to the critical facility load of total loss of power and loss of quality of power. Critical application of power such as hospitals, health care, computer data centers has created the need to maximize the quality and reliability of systems.
• Load Banks allow to effectively check the efficiency of emergency sets (generators, Uninterrupted Power Supplies) to perform in an emergency power situation. They represent a reliable and economic way to prolong the lifetime of extremely expensive and critical equipments.

The artificial load it provides boosts the system to an acceptable operating temperature. To Bring a diesel engine generator set, up to an operating temperature means eliminating excessive fuel build up or unburned fuel deposits from building up in the engine. This is known as "wet stacking" and occurs when diesel engines are run on low or unloaded conditions. The load bank also checks the engines ability to provide the required horsepower over time, frequency stability and the alternator’s ability to provide the required voltage stability.

Froment Load Banks

Froment Proofloader is a load bank system that replicates working load conditions and provides a rigorous test regime for power supplies from 1kW to many MVA.

Resistive, inductive or combined load banks can be customised for any application. They can be permanently connected to one power source, used for testing numerous sets in a workshop environment, or used for on-site commissioning, witness tests and proof trials.

Standard or custom-built load banks can be supplied for most voltages, frequencies and sizes. Multi-voltage load banks are also available for operation over a large voltage range.

Load banks are available in static versions for permanent installation or movable format with fork lift pocket base, castors or full road going trailers. Larger load banks, typically above 1200kVA, are based on an ISO container construction. Special finishes including custom paint colours and stainless steel casings can be supplied.

Resistive Loadbanks

Resistive load banks from Gulf Incon Uae, can be used for testing AC supplies (at unity power factor) or for DC batteries discharge or UPS testing. The load bank size is expressed in kilowatts (kW) or amps (A) at the rated voltage.

Froment's standard load banks can be used for testing supplies up to a voltage of 690Vac or 500Vdc. The MS range, based on a welded monocoque or modular chassis construction, is primarily for single or three phase testing at up to 2000kW at 690V.

INDUCTIVE LOAD BANKS

Inductive (or inductive reactive) load banks are used in conjunction with resistive load banks for testing AC supplies at non unity power factors. Most generating sets are rated at 0.8 power factor (or CosØ), so to test at rated conditions requires both resistive and inductive load. 

Inductive load banks can be customised for a particular application, or they can be combined into one unit with resistive load banks.
